Kid Nation Ep. 4

Role- The roles in the town are laborers, cooks, merchants, and the upper class. Each role has its own job. They work together in society. Upper class helps with everything. Merchants provide goods. Cooks provide food. Laborers keep the town working cleanly.

Achieved Status- Everyone in the town is working to become the upper class. Although not every group can claim this status. The first place achieves the upper class. The second place will recieve the merchant status. the group in third place gets the status of cooks. The fourth place group has to be laborers.

Status Set- The kids here identify as their group color like red, green, blue, or yellow. They might also identify as their religion. They could be a friend or kid, maybe a brother or sister. They would also identify as upper class, merchants, cooks, or laborers. If they're merchant they could also identify as the type of store they own. If they're cooks they could identify as what their cooking job is. Laborers might be what they clean.

Kid Nation Ep. 3

Morals- They believe that Greg is a bad influence because he is using curse words at the other children. The other kids have morals that they think using those words are just wrong and you just shouldn't do that at all. His morals aren't as strict as the others, so he doesn't really think it's that bad.

Reference Group- The young kids are looking up to the older kids for advice. They need the older kids like Greg to make a good example of themselves so the younger kids don't try to get into trouble, too. When the older kids do something, the young kids think it's okay to do that too. That means that the old kids need to make good leaders.

Desocialization- The kids have to give up their hot pizzas for a microwave in this episode. In the past they had have to give up a water slide and a TV. When they came to this town, they had to give up all of their normal things like electronics. They had to improve their attitudes and their behavior.

The Poorest President in The World

The poorest president in the world is very interesting. The fact that he gets very little money but donates 90% of it fascinates me. Our presidents have received millions of dollars for their salary. It's good that he donates it to charity, though. I'm surprised that he only receives 12,500 because that would not be normal at all for an American president. I would like to know why this president gets only this little amount of money.

Five Day Weekend

We received five days of break this weekend for Easter. On Thursday and Friday I just relaxed and enjoyed my time off. On Friday night I made cupcakes and gifts for people at a nursing home for Easter. On Saturday I went to visit my grandma, and I gave the gifts to the people in the home. On Saturday night I started helping my mom make Easter dinner. On Sunday I gathered with my whole family to eat and hunt eggs. I spent Saturday night and Monday with my friends.

Kid Nation Ep. 2

Counter-culture: There are young kids that are very against killing the chickens. They are against the beliefs of most of the people including the council. They tried to protest, but didn't succeed. In the end, they killed the chicken.

Values: The chicken is a main value at this point. They consider protein very valuable. They need meat and protein to survive. They don't have much else to look forward to besides a good meal.

Formal Sanctions: The first group to get done with the challenge receives the upper class title and the most money. The second group receives a little less money and the merchant jobs. The third group gets even less money and the cooking jobs. The last group to finish receives very little money and jobs as the laborers. If they all get done within the time frame, they get rewarded with something they can all use.

My Weekend

This weekend, I am going to have a black light party for my birthday. I've been planning it for a few weeks, and I have invited a lot of people. Black lights work by lighting up anything that is white or neon. My mom just ordered the cupcakes from Schnucks last night, we had to get fifty! I also have to cover the windows in black paper so no sunlight gets in. I covered the walls in neon silly string, and it glows in the light!

                                                                                                                               April 1, 2014

Dear Mrs. DeBolt,

Hello, I'm going to tell you some things about me. First of all, I'm the youngest kid, I have two older siblings. I also have a dog, she's very old and small. I really love shopping and spending time with my family. My favorite food is Mac'n cheese, it has been since I was really little.
In my free time I like to go to the park, and sometimes I even play tennis. I live right next to a park, so I can walk there whenever I please. Every weekend, I hang out with my friends. I also usually go visit my grandma; we talk and make crafts.
I do have some experience with computers. My favorite thing to do is make power-points, edit things, or create collages. I do like writing, too, so I'm enjoying blogging a lot. I don't do it very often, but I like to draw on the painting game. I mean, who doesn't?

                                                                                                                              Sincerely,
                                                                                                                              Katie Basler

Video Games Make Kids More Violent

If video games are being played out of a child's age range, then I believe that it will make the child more violent. Excessive use of blood and guts could cause the child to want to see more and more and then make him or her more violent. They may start to enjoy looking at these things more often and want more games that are even more violent. This is not healthy for young kids or even older kids. In the worse cases, the kids might even use these childhood games to become a violent adult.
