Popcorn is a very delicious snack. It is fluffy and soft. You can make popcorn any time you want. You can make it for a snack while you watch a movie. Or even when you just want something to eat. You can also put a lot of different toppings on it. Like butter, cheddar cheese powder, salt, even chocolate. It is every easy to make which is why it is such a great snack.

Too Many Bananas

There was this little village lived by a forest. In that forest lived a bunch of monkeys. The monkeys kept coming down to the little village to look for food. Every time the monkeys came for food they would take all of the bananas. The villagers didn't know what to do. They tired putting the bananas in a large box, they also tried hiding they bananas. They they even tried locking up the bananas in a room. But the monkeys got to the bananas every time. One day a little girl told them that they should try to give some of they bananas to the monkeys and then keep  some for the villagers too. So they tried it and after that they monkeys stopped taking the villagers bananas.

Cats

http://pets.webmd.com/ss/slideshow-surprising-things-about-dogs-and-cats
Cats are great pets because the can get rid of mice, they can be playful.  But some bad things about cats are that they puke up hair balls, they leave fur all over the place as well. Some people are allergic to cats because of their fur but they can get a hairless cat. A hairless cat may be very ugly but they dont have any fur so they wont puke up hair balls and wont leave hair all over the place.

All About Me

Puppies

http://www.huskypuppy.net/

Puppies are so cute. They are playful. Puppies can make you feel better when you are sad. They just make your day. When people ask me what kind of pet the should get I tell them they should get a puppy. Even thought some dog do make messes they are still a great pet.

My Favorite Meal

My favorite meal ever is macaroni and cheese with a jelly sandwich and chocolate milk. Macaroni and cheese has always been my favorite, especially when it's homemade by my aunt. For some wierd reason, I really love jelly sandwiches. I dont like peanut butter unless it's cooked into something, so instead of having a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, I just eat jelly on it. Chocolate milk is like a tradition. My aunt always buys some for me every time I go to her house. My older brother and sister both used to drink chocolate milk all the time at her house. My younger cousins are all starting to do it too.

What Bugs Me

Something that really bugs me is when people look like they are sagging their pants because they don't pull them up. For example, this morning in the hallway I saw someone wearing skinny jeans and the waistband was too big. The pants fit fine except for in the butt. I think it looks unattractive and tacky. If the waistband on your pants is too big please either get a belt or pull them up. I will personally buy you a belt if you really need one. I think people should try to find pants that actually fit instead of wearing them like they are. If you have trouble finding pants that fit, ask your parents or grandparents to taylor them to your needs.

City Museum

On Tuesday we had an AR field trip. We went to the City Museum if we had made out AR goals for at least three quarters. On the way to the museum I slept. When we got there we met up with our chaperons and started exploring. We went to the caves first. My group went down the five story slide because we were too scared to do the ten story one. Later we went to the art center. We painted our hands and made heart shapes on paper with them. I also painted my name and added splatter paint to it. They had a big chalk board there, too. You could sign your name or write anything you want on it. I really enjoyed the City Museum.

Kid Nation Ep. 7

Positive Deviance- Divad went over her expectations and she showed positive deviance. She did more than she was required to do. She did much more than people wanted her to do. People in the town didn't really like it because it become annoying. The positive deviance she showed was not enjoyed by many other people.

Stigma- People in the town are labeled negatively by stigmas. Nathan was sometimes called a loser or nerd. Kids thought that Greg was a jerk. Divad was labeled as a suck-up. Taylor was called bossy and a pageant queen. Jared might have been called weird. Stigmas effected almost everyone in the town.

Social Sanctions- The town council meeting is a bit like a social sanction. When somebody recieves a gold star they are rewarded for good things. They might be punished for not cooperating with the town or their district. The town council members might be punished by having someone else take their place in the council. A social sanction could be good or bad.

Wednesday, May 7, 2014

Kid Nation Ep. 6

Cooperation- The council chose people from each group to help clean up the trash. They cooperated to pick up all the trash, take it out, and bury it in the ground. Taylor didn't cooperate at all and she was faced with the consequences. Her friend didn't cooperate at first, but realized she needed to help so that she could help out the town. When they cooperate together, they can get thing done.

Rationalization- They rationalize plans to get goals accomplished. They had plans to get the trash picked up. They rationalized a plan to get the water from the pump to the buckets. They rationalize what would be better for the town as a whole. They reason with eachother to decide what is best.

Authority- The council uses authority to control the children in the town. Zach used authority on Taylor to make her conform to the rules. But, Taylor needs more authority used on her because she won't contribe to the town whatsoever. DK uses authoriy on everyone because they get carried away and are too mean. Authority makes the town run better.

Kid Nation Ep. 5

Group- The whole town is a group. The red district is a group. The blue district is a group. So are the green and yellow districts. There's groups of merchants, cooks, laborers, and upper class. The group have their own jobs and responsibilities.

Group Boundary- The groups in the town seperate eachother by havung their different colors. They have a red group and blue group. They also have a yellow and green group. They wear bandanas with their colors to seperate eachother. Almost everything they do involves their different colors to seperate them.

In-group- The girls in the yellow district like to not follow rules along with Taylor. They are the in-group from the yellow district. Once Taylor was voted out, the group will hopefully start following more rules. They targeted the rest of the people in the yellow district because they followed they rules and wanted to make the town better. Taylor's in-group didn't really care about the big picture.

Kid Nation Ep. 4

Role- The roles in the town are laborers, cooks, merchants, and the upper class. Each role has its own job. They work together in society. Upper class helps with everything. Merchants provide goods. Cooks provide food. Laborers keep the town working cleanly.

Achieved Status- Everyone in the town is working to become the upper class. Although not every group can claim this status. The first place achieves the upper class. The second place will recieve the merchant status. the group in third place gets the status of cooks. The fourth place group has to be laborers.

Status Set- The kids here identify as their group color like red, green, blue, or yellow. They might also identify as their religion. They could be a friend or kid, maybe a brother or sister. They would also identify as upper class, merchants, cooks, or laborers. If they're merchant they could also identify as the type of store they own. If they're cooks they could identify as what their cooking job is. Laborers might be what they clean.

Kid Nation Ep. 3

Morals- They believe that Greg is a bad influence because he is using curse words at the other children. The other kids have morals that they think using those words are just wrong and you just shouldn't do that at all. His morals aren't as strict as the others, so he doesn't really think it's that bad.

Reference Group- The young kids are looking up to the older kids for advice. They need the older kids like Greg to make a good example of themselves so the younger kids don't try to get into trouble, too. When the older kids do something, the young kids think it's okay to do that too. That means that the old kids need to make good leaders.

Desocialization- The kids have to give up their hot pizzas for a microwave in this episode. In the past they had have to give up a water slide and a TV. When they came to this town, they had to give up all of their normal things like electronics. They had to improve their attitudes and their behavior.

The Poorest President in The World

The poorest president in the world is very interesting. The fact that he gets very little money but donates 90% of it fascinates me. Our presidents have received millions of dollars for their salary. It's good that he donates it to charity, though. I'm surprised that he only receives 12,500 because that would not be normal at all for an American president. I would like to know why this president gets only this little amount of money.

Five Day Weekend

We received five days of break this weekend for Easter. On Thursday and Friday I just relaxed and enjoyed my time off. On Friday night I made cupcakes and gifts for people at a nursing home for Easter. On Saturday I went to visit my grandma, and I gave the gifts to the people in the home. On Saturday night I started helping my mom make Easter dinner. On Sunday I gathered with my whole family to eat and hunt eggs. I spent Saturday night and Monday with my friends.

Kid Nation Ep. 2

Counter-culture: There are young kids that are very against killing the chickens. They are against the beliefs of most of the people including the council. They tried to protest, but didn't succeed. In the end, they killed the chicken.

Values: The chicken is a main value at this point. They consider protein very valuable. They need meat and protein to survive. They don't have much else to look forward to besides a good meal.

Formal Sanctions: The first group to get done with the challenge receives the upper class title and the most money. The second group receives a little less money and the merchant jobs. The third group gets even less money and the cooking jobs. The last group to finish receives very little money and jobs as the laborers. If they all get done within the time frame, they get rewarded with something they can all use.

My Weekend

This weekend, I am going to have a black light party for my birthday. I've been planning it for a few weeks, and I have invited a lot of people. Black lights work by lighting up anything that is white or neon. My mom just ordered the cupcakes from Schnucks last night, we had to get fifty! I also have to cover the windows in black paper so no sunlight gets in. I covered the walls in neon silly string, and it glows in the light!

Kid Nation Ep. 1

The proletariats are the children trying to survive in the town. The capitalists are the town council members. Class conflict exists between the proletariats and the capitalists, a lot of the proletariats believe they would make better leaders than the capitalists. When the leader from the green group was comforting a child from her group and offering an adult influence, she was creating verstehen.

                                                                                                                               April 1, 2014

Dear Mrs. DeBolt,

Hello, I'm going to tell you some things about me. First of all, I'm the youngest kid, I have two older siblings. I also have a dog, she's very old and small. I really love shopping and spending time with my family. My favorite food is Mac'n cheese, it has been since I was really little.
In my free time I like to go to the park, and sometimes I even play tennis. I live right next to a park, so I can walk there whenever I please. Every weekend, I hang out with my friends. I also usually go visit my grandma; we talk and make crafts.
I do have some experience with computers. My favorite thing to do is make power-points, edit things, or create collages. I do like writing, too, so I'm enjoying blogging a lot. I don't do it very often, but I like to draw on the painting game. I mean, who doesn't?

                                                                                                                              Sincerely,
                                                                                                                              Katie Basler

Video Games Make Kids More Violent

If video games are being played out of a child's age range, then I believe that it will make the child more violent. Excessive use of blood and guts could cause the child to want to see more and more and then make him or her more violent. They may start to enjoy looking at these things more often and want more games that are even more violent. This is not healthy for young kids or even older kids. In the worse cases, the kids might even use these childhood games to become a violent adult.

Kid Nation

In this show 40 kids that go and live in an abandoned pioneer town. The leaders of the town are kids as well. The oldest is 15 years old and the youngest is 8 years old. All of the kids have to hike to the town. some of the goats the kids have have gotten out and the kids had capture them. The kids have to pull all of there things in wagons. One of the kids hurt their foot and the others helped him by pulling him in the wagon. When the kids reached the town they realized how dead the town really was. When they found out they only had a thin mat to sleep on they realized much work they had to do. While trying to cook they realized that they need to follow a recipe if they want to eat. After the first day, a lot of the kids want to leave, but the leaders have to find a way to make everything work. The next morning at breakfast not everyone eat food because people took more than they were supposed too. One of the older kinds named Greg was pushing around one of the leaders Mike, but one of the other older kids named Micheal was standing up for the leaders telling the other kids that they need to listen to the leaders. The leaders had to split all of the kids into districts. The yellow, blue, green, and red districts. Two of the kids in the blue district came to all of the districts bunks and wrote 'Go Blue' on the doors.
All the kids had to get a job. The districts have to compete to see what jobs and what pay they get.The upper class are the red district. The merchants are the blue district. The cooks are the yellow district. The laborers are the green district. Since all of the teams finished in less than an hour they get a reward. The have a choice between more outhouses or a TV. The kids have chosen to get the extra outhouses. The yellow district are the cooks and they didn't follow a recipe, but everyone loved it, but they didn't want to clean. The teams are so excited for the stores because they have tools, candy, soda and things from home. All the kids are so excited to buy things and Sophia really wanted to buy a bike so she was dancing for nickels until she had three dollars to buy the bike. Taylor the leader of the red district wants to home but the other leaders are nervous about want will happen if she does leave.
The leaders of all the districts have to agree on one person to receive a gold star which is worth $20,000. They choose the person by how hard and by want they have done to help the town. The leaders have chosen to pick Sophia to win the gold star. When Sophia found out the gold star was worth $20,000 she was so excited and surprised. Sophia got the chance to call her parents to tell her she won her mom freaked out and was so excited.
The whole town was so excited after the town meeting they were all happy and running around and working together.

My Day Yesterday

Picture From Here

Yesterday I went to the doctors because I have been having really bad headaches for about 4 weeks. When we got to the doctors we had to wait for the person to come out at call me into the room. When they finally did the lady checked everything like my blood pressure and my tempurature. Then we had to wait for the actual doctor to come in.While me and my dad were waiting we heard like 70,000 kids screaming. When my doctor finally came in he told checked my nose, mouth, and ears. When he was done he told me that I have a sinus infection and that the sinus infection was causing my headaches. So then we left the doctors office and when to pick up something from my dads work.

Something That Annoys Me

Picture From Here

Something that really annoys me is when people tab their pens or pencils on their desk nonstop. For example, when we are supposed to be reading and the room is silent there is always that one person who has to be making a noise. Another thing that really bugs me is when people chew their gum or eat their food really loud or with their mouth open. Like keep for mouth closed we don't want to see that. Also what annoys me is when people always try to talk to me while I am listening to music and I keep having to take me ear phones in and out just to hear them. When  I am listening to music around people I don't want to talk to them because they annoy me or I just don't like that person or I want to listen to music in peace!

Volleyball

Picture From Here

Volleyball is my favorite sport, and I have been playing since I was in 5th grade. Last year I played for a team called St. Louis Powerhitters. We were not very good but it is just fun to play. I played volleyball this year for the 7th grade team, and it was very fun. For club this season I am playing for a team called JC Crush because I didn't make my old team. When I didn't make Powerhitters this year I was sad because I made a lot of friends last year who made it this year. I tried out for another team and made that team but didn't know anyone else so I went to the Crush tryout.

Special or Not?

Picture From Here

I believe everyone does have the right to be special, but with that being said if more people start doing that the less special people will become. I feel that if someone does something extraordinary and everyone thinks they are special that is awesome until others start doing the exact same thing. If everyone starts doing the same things the world would be boring with everyone doing the same thing every single day. If people what to be special they should just be themselves and be who they want to be not what everyone else is. If you want to be special you need to have a unique personality and not just be one in a crowd.

Volleyball

Picture From Here

I play volleyball for a select team named JC Crush. We practice every Tuesday and every Sunday except for when we have tournaments on Sundays. We have played in four tournaments this season so far and we have another one next weekend. At our first two tournaments we didn't do very well and we got 4th, but on our third tournament we received first in the silver bracket. On our most recent tournament we received second in silver. Last year for volleyball I played for a different team called St. Louis Powerhitters.

Neverland

If I was standing in  front of seven doors and I had to choose which one to go in I would choose the seventh door. I would choose the seventh door because seven is my lucky number and that door would go to Neverland. I would like to go to Neverland because I would really like to meet and fly with Peter Pan and Tinker Bell. I would like to meet Tinker Bell because I would really like to fly with her and use her fairy dust.

The Things I Will Never Forget

Picture From Here

The thing that I will never forget about this age is that the time I spend with my family and with my volleyball team. My family is always busy and we never get to spend time with each other and when we do it's mostly when we are in the car going somewhere for either my volleyball or far my sisters softball. When my family actually gets to spend time with each other I love all of it. My volleyball team is also very important to me because they are a group of people I would have most likely have never met if it weren't for this team.

Verrückt Water Slide

Picture From Here

The Verrückt water slide, which is located in Kansas City, Missouri, is opening in May 23 and is taller than the Statue of Liberty. The water slide being at least 17 stories tall is looking to breaking the Guinness World Record which is currently set in Brazil with the 14 story high Insano. If you are brave enough to ride this water slide you will first have to climb a set of 264 steps. Jeff, the creator of this ride, is also known as the 'Wizard of Water' because he also is responsible for the creation of many of the Water Park's attractions. Personally I would not like to go on this ride only because it seems like you could fall out of the raft and get severally injured. If you are brave enough to go on this ride though good luck!

Micro Windmills

Jung-Chih Chiao, an Electrical Engineering professor at University of Texas in Arlington, had an idea to create Micro Windmills. He came up with this idea while thinking of ways to best contain energy the wind created through the night. The Micro Windmills are so small ten of them could fit on a grain of rice. Despite the small size, the Micro Windmills can withstand very strong winds because it is made up of very strong and flexible nickle. So many of these Micro Windmills can be made with a single slice of nickle meaning these Micro Windmills can be produced and sold cheaply. Chiao is now talking with a Taiwanese manufacturer WinMems Technologies Co., about putting Micro Windmills on the market. That means that soon we may be the owners of windmill chargers!
